No VoIP blocking on Virgin America beta; VoIP holes on AA.

Voip News No Comments »

No VoIP blocking on Virgin America beta; VoIP holes on AA.

Joining American Airlines, Virgin America has demoed its in-flight Gogo broadband service. Official policy for Virgin Airlines is to block VoIP parts, but, rather than just let sleeping dogs lie, it seems to be a rite of passage for tech media wonks to demo work-around as they write about their experiences.

Flying aboard a beta charter flight over San Francisco, Gizmodo’s Brian Lam was able to fire up a “really solid” iChat video session that he expects Virgin to filter on “real flights.” Lam also notes most airlines are blocking known VoIP ports “For our sanity.”

Meanwhile, another Gizmodo post reporting conditions on Gogo reports that video chat was accessible on a West Coast American Airlines flight. About the only thing that Jalopnik editor Wes Siler couldn’t get going is a video chat session using iChat (hmm, do you spot the pattern here?) with voice chat he said “worked all too well.” A follow-up comment suggests Siler may now be on the TSA blacklist for his actions.

FierceVoIP has previously reported remarks by Aircell CEO Jack Blumenstein — Gogo’s parent company — if passengers are found using voice capabilities on Aircell’s service, “we can exercise the right to turn your access off.” And that’s in addition to what American Airlines might do violators of the clearly stated policy against VoIP use on their flights.

For more:
- Gizmodo shows that, at least in demo phase, you can do a Video iChat. Blog
- They also show a VoIP session on Nov 19 on an American Airlines flight from LA to NY. Blog.

Junction Networks Picked as Voice Provider for edgeBOX

Editor’s Note:  We personally use Junction Networks for our SIP termination and we have been satisfied with their service.  I have also chatted with their CEO and he was very knowledgeable and courteous.

New Jersey-based Critical Links has chosen VoIP service provider Junction Networks as the preferred provider for its edgeBOX all-in-one, voice-and-data appliance.

edgeBOX is an integrated device aimed at the SMB market. It includes a full-fledged IP-PBX, wireless access point, router, file, e-mail and VPN server. The edgeBOX will come preconfigured with a free trial of Junction Networks’ SIP or IAX VoIP trunking and PSTN gateway.

Time Warner Cable Raises Standalone Broadband Prices - Solo tiers see $2 hike, VoIP/broadband bundles see $3 hike….

Voip DSL-Reports No Comments »

Time Warner Cable Raises Standalone Broadband Prices - Solo tiers see $2 hike, VoIP/broadband bundles see $3 hike….

Southern California users in our Time Warner Cable/Roadrunner forum note that the cable company is raising the prices for some standalone broadband and double play offerings. A notice being sent to customers indicates that the company’s standalone Lite, Basic, Standard and Turbo tiers will all be increasing by two dollars. Customers who bundle just broadband and VoIP will be seeing $3 price increases. The original alert:

“Effective with your next monthly bill, all Road Runner retail rates will be increased by $2 to Lite $26.95, Basic $36.95, Standard $46.95 and Turbo $56.95. Surf N’ Talk bundles with Road Runner or EarthLink will increase by $3 to Surf N’ Talk $72.95 and Surf N’ Talk Turbo $82.95″

On Friday I asked Time Warner Cable if this was a market-specific increase or company wide, but apparently caught them enjoying turkey leftovers — the company tells me they should have an answer to that question next week. On the plus side, those standalone prices are still considerably less than many cable operators are charging for non-bundled broadband service.

Unlimited Calling to India & USA : Teleblend
Hi,

With the festive month of Diwali, calls to India increase to a great amount. Many Voip providers have come up with Diwali offers and some with unlimited calling plans.

Unlimited calling to India plan is specially for Business purpose and for people who make a lot of international phone calls to India and other countries. For those who came looking for absolutely free calls, can make use of free 5$ credit by Tabrio to make calls to anywhere in world (India, Pakistan, Cuba, Philippines etc etc).

TeleBlend is a broadband phone company that is offering phone service to homes around the nation with more coverage in the US that anyone in the industry. I have seen in recent past that broadband providers have started providing voip to their customers. (Indian major boradband provider MTNL also started Pigeonvoip), and they usually come up with unlimited plans.

Teleblend is offering unlimited calling plans to USA, Canada, India, other Asian and European countries (Germany, Sweden, etc).

Teleblend majorly offers one plan at 15.95$/mo in which they are giving unlimited calls to almost all regions of USA and Canada. Well this is not the end, Teleblend offers some addon to this package by which you can either make cheap calls to other countries or make unlimited calls to other parts of world.
