Cheapest STD and Local Phone calls in India by Virgin Mobile

Cheapest STD and Local Phone calls in India by Virgin Mobile
Hi,

Virgin Mobile came with a bang in India. With red colored advertisements everywhere. Some really cool Television advertisements, they made a mark in India telecom industry. Few months back, we blogged about VirginMobiles they being first one to offer “get paid for incoming offer”.

This post is specially for our readers in India. If you are not from India, and came looking to make free voip phone calls you may Read the post about Tabrio offering free 5$ trial credit to make free calls to your destination. (Any country in world).

I am sure many of you must already switched to Virgin Mobiles as your service provider. If not, they have again bought a tempting deal for you. With Diwali this month, telecom provider try every method to increase their customer base.

Virginmobile has also come up with an amazing Diwali offer. Not only the STD has been cut drastically or by 33% but also the local phone call tariffs have also been slashed. Now with Virgin mobile India all STD and local phone / mobile calls are 0.50 paisa only for a minute, any network (not limited to their own network) at no extra cost.

Apart from giving you 10paise/min for incoming they have come up with a bak bak plan. Lets check out its details -:

Local = STD = 50p/min without any pack

How much does it cost to send an SMS?
Local Rs.1/- , National Rs.1.50/- , International Rs.5/-

All Local Calls @ 50p/min
Only first 3 Local mins of the day, would be charged @ Re.1/min

STD Calls @ 50p/min
Only first 3 STD mins of the day, would be charged @ Rs.1.50/min STD calls @ 50p/min subject to a maximum of 30min per day.

Additionally you get some free stuff too. “Rs.100 Free Talk time + 500 SMS Free + Starter Pack + Lifetime validity“

I guess this is too much of a deal for you to switch to virgin mobiles. I don’t think you will get any cheaper rates than that.

With Voip already in India, it would be difficult for telecom provider to survive in this market. Only way for them would be to offer some really cheap rates and such luring offers.

Its indeed a good start from VirginMobiles and I am sure more telecom providers will come up with such offers. (After all they need to survive in this telecom industry).

In what has been a rather bizarre chain of events, I went from not having Internet access at home (mostly like due to our first REAL snow of the year) yesterday, to not being able to access Gmail (today…who knows).

Yes, I realize that there are more important things in the world, but these two little glitches have but the Near Future of VoIP series on hiatus until I have internet access and Gmail working at the same time. Hopefully everything is back to normal tomorrow.

Voxeo buys VoiceObjects

Voip News No Comments »

Voxeo buys VoiceObjects

Voxeo accomplished multiple goals in acquiring VoiceObjects, the second company it has bought this year.  More acquisitions are expected throughout 2009.

By purchasing VoiceObjects, Voxeo has acquired middleware to enable carrier-grade deployments of over-the-phone self-service apps that are easier and cheaper to deploy - and enable personalization to each caller. There’s also a phone self-service analytics package for measuring performance that also allows non-technical staff members to make updates and changes.

VoiceObjects also brings a large European and mobile carrier footprint to Voxeo; Orange, O2 and Vodafone are all VoiceObjects customers, not to mention a bunch of enterprise customers including Adobe, Citibank, Hershey, IKEA, Kellogg, SAP and Volkswagen.

Open standards also play a role in this story. Voxeo and VoiceObjects are big users and advocates of VoiceXML, and it is likely Voxeo’s future acquisitions will use VoiceXML to build their solutions. The combined company will continue to enhance the VoiceObjects platforms and launch several new VoiceObjects-based products and services in 2009.

Employee-owned, Voxeo said it has logged twenty consecutive quarters of profitable operations, while sustaining an average yearly revenue growth rate exceeding 60 percent. It’s using all that cash to acquire companies, as it has bought four companies in the last four years. Earlier this year, the company bought Beijing-based Micromethod.  Voxeo “expects to close additional strategic acquisitions” in 2009.

Hictu users will be able to use the JAJAH service from within any micro-post on Hictu, simply by clicking on the green Jajah call button embedded in their Hictu profile. Users will also be able to talk from their phone with any other JAJAH customer or with any user who has previously registered a phone number in the Jajah section of their Hictu profile.

“We are very proud to announce this partnership with Jajah,” states Luca Filigheddu, CEO of Abbeynet. “Jajah is one of the fastest growing global Web telephony companies; a young company forecasted to play a leadership role in the future of Web-integrated communications.”

Developed in Italy and capable of competing over an international Web 2.0 scenario, the Hictu video micro-blogging platform lets users instantly publish text, audio and video messages online and share this content with friends and other Hictu users. Hictu’s service is compelling and unique and we are thrilled to be working with them.”

YellowSnow! The iPhone 3G Software Unlock Beta (0.9.4) Released.

Voip News No Comments »

YellowSnow! The iPhone 3G Software Unlock Beta (0.9.4) Released.
http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
The iPhone Dev Team has released the updated he iPhone 3G software unlock program, YellowSnow. The program runs as a small command line application which is easy to install in any jailbroken iPhone 3G using Installer.
Even though I am not putting this on my iPhone, according to this poster on hachintosh, (read this discussion, which is very long, as well) all seem to be dandy and fine. You can find a portion of his post below;

“OK, I have spent the last 2 days working solid trying to get this to work on the UK Three (3) carrier on a iPhone that was locked to o2. Follow these steps, each one is pretty important:

1. Restore your iPhone with itunes to 2.2 firmware (if you haven’t already)

2. Jailbreak with QuickPwn (if you haven’t already)

3. Open installer and add the source Dev Team provided and download yellowsn0w 0.9.4 (if you haven’t already)

4. Download BigBoss Prefs (if you haven’t already)

5. Download Mobile Terminal (if you haven’t already)

6. Go into Settings -> Phone -> show My Caller ID Turn this ON
** Although it maybe greyed out and say OFF, you can still turn it ON**

7. Go into BigBoss Prefs and click Reboot

8. Once phone is on, go into Terminal

9. OK, now the timing of this next part in important.
There are 4 lines that need to be entered. You need to type;
- yellowsn0w –r
- yellowsn0w –c
- These two commands need to be entered between 2-4 seconds within each other. They way you do that is type in one of the commands (yellowsn0w –r) on the terminal screen (but don’t press enter) then if you click the top right corner (hit the battery symbol) another terminal will appear, type the second command (yellowsn0w –c) but don’t press enter. Now, hit the battery twice more and you’ll be back at the first terminal screen. Press enter, quickly press move to the second screen and press enter again. As long as “open: Resource Busy” does not appear, move to the next step, otherwise repeat the above, make sure you quick enough entering the commands.

10. Next do the same as the above but enter these two commands:
- yellowsn0w –r (i)
- yellowsn0w –l
- Again, make sure they are entered within 2-4 seconds of each other. And AGAIN, you will know if this worked by waiting 20 seconds after you’ve entered “yellowsn0w –l” and “open: Resource Busy” does not appear. (You should also see “Searching…” where your signal should be..,”

11. OK, nearly done, press home button to get out of terminal, go into Settings and turn on Aeroplane mode…turn it off…it’ll probably say “Searching…” again, if after another 20 seconds it’s still saying it, turn it on and off again and NOW it should find your network. **You’ll know if it’s working after this step as the “Carrier” bar will appear under WiFi.

NOTES – I’ve done this 3 times now to my own phone, seems to require it after each reboot. And don’t worry, it never worked the first time I tried it on each of the 3 occasions. I had WiFi on, Edge on, doesn’t seem to matter, it all seems to be about the terminal commands and having your Caller ID Showing…

OW, and BIG PROPS goes out to deli_gt who advised me through these hard times.”

Feds Start Wait List For DTV Converter Coupons - Program has reached its $1.34 billion funding cap…

Back in 2007, the government announced it would be giving each household in the United States two coupons to help pay for digital adapters, made necessary by the February 17, 2009 transition from analog to digital television. But with the program now running out of cash, the government has announced they’ll be putting those who need the coupons on a waiting list. According to the Associated Press, the waiting list was created by the NTIA on Sunday after the program hit a $1.34 billion funding limit set by Congress. Nielsen estimates that as of December, 6.8 percent of the 114 million U.S. households with televisions remained completely unready for the digital transition.

QTtel : Unlimited Free calls to 50 countries
Hi,

Wishing all our blog readers a very happy new year. There had been a lot of voip providers offering cheap and free calling service. Advertisement based and browser based voip calling service has been lot of popular among users. We just hope that lot more Free voip providers come into the market.

Well one such free voip provider is Qttel. Qttel is browser based phone to phone calling service offering free calls from 5 destinations [Australia (FIX only),Canada (FIX & GSM!),UK (FIX only),Holland (FIX only),USA (FIX & GSM!)] to about 50 countries. To make calls, you have to visit Qttel. You will find a calling widget there. (Softphone).

You have to enter your number and the number you want to call, similar to other web based services, Qttel will call you first then your destination. However remember to enter your number in international format. Limitation being that you can call only from given 5 countries and each call is limited to 5 minutes.

Advantages being no advetisement, and you can call the destination over and over (unlimited), no limitations on number of calls. Looks a good free calling service.
