For those of you out there who celebrated a holiday and enjoyed a few days away from it all, I hope you and yours enjoyed it. I know I did. For those of you still “away from it all” I wish I was there with you - continue to enjoy.

After a few day break, I wanted to pick the series back up with Abdul Kasim of Critical Links. Critical Links makes a very exciting product called edgeBox. edgeBox is office-in-the-box IT solution that combines VoIP/IP-PBX, VPNs, security, NAC, QoS and a WiFi access point as well as a fax server, web server, e-mail server, print server and data storage into one device.

Despite the fact that it still won’t make your coffee - the edgeBox signals a new generation of small business technologies that look to harness the full capability of IP communications. That’s why Abdul is perfect to give us more insight into the future of VoIP…

BroadSoft acquiring Sylantro - The impact

Voip News No Comments »

BroadSoft acquiring Sylantro - The impact

In a major consolidation of the VoIP application server space, BroadSoft Inc. is expected to publicly announce its acquisition of Sylantro Systems before Christmas — if not sooner.  Multiple sources with insight into BroadSoft and Sylantro say it’s a done deal, with former Sylantro employees conducting a privately-held wake on a LinkedIn discussion.

At BroadSoft, the acquisition is being viewed as a major boon with great respect being given to Sylantro’s past accomplishments in the marketplace, as well as its current brand strength.  The company will gain 50 new customers from Sylantro, including AT&T, Qwest, Swisscom and NuVox. BroadSoft executives describe Sylantro as a “formidable competitor” for the past decade and say they are “fortunate” to be able to acquire such a strong brand.

Terms of the deal appear to have been quite favorable. Sources say BroadSoft believes it will be able to generate positive cash flow from the acquisition in 2009, a feat it attributes to the consideration and terms of the merger.

Others “in the know” on the transaction say that Sylantro was running out of cash with no means to raise additional capital.  A shotgun wedding with BroadSoft was a way to save jobs for some employees and spare existing customers the uncertainty of a bankruptcy filing.

Sylantro’s R&D office in Bangalore, India, is listed as a “key asset” in the acquisition. In addition, BroadSoft expects to keep a (smaller) office in Sylantro’s Silicon Valley HQ and keep parts of the sales organization.

Doug Mohney contributed to this report.

iPhone For …… (Fill in the blanks)

iPhone For …… (Fill in the blanks)
http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Mat Brady of PlanetMat comes out with iPhone ideas time to time. Most of the time I have laughed and some times admired his suggested iPhone designs.
The one above, at first glance seem to be what I want but then quickly wheels in your brain start to spin and you realize that it is not a very good idea other than looking sleek.
Just imagine answering the phone! You might get away if you are left handed (might poke your eye yet) and if you are right handed, you might slice your ear off, after a few attempts!
So this goes under, iPhone idea that will never fly! Sorry Mat.

Callwithus offers Cheap International Phone calls
Hi,

If you are paying heavily for your International/National Phone calls, then I must say you are in a big loss. With Voip all over, you can save a lot at this time of financial crises. If you are reading Free Pc to Phone calls, then you are updated to the latest offers and cheapest ways to make voip phone calls.

Today, we will be discussing about Callwithus, a voip provider offering cheap phone calls to a large number of Countries.

You can make phone calls via Callwithus to any country from any personal computer or phone adapter (ATA or Analog Telephone Adapter). You can use any SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) or IAX (Inter Asterisk eXchange) protocol-compatible phone adapter or a “softphone” - a program which turns your personal computer into a powerful VOIP client. A very good SIP client is X-Lite which is free. We do offer a free WEB-based IAX-compatible phone, make calls from your web browser!

  • No membership fees, you only pay for the calls you make.
  • All calls between the network are free.
  • You can start with as low as 5$ amount, payments can be made vis all major credit cards, Paypal, Google checkout.
  • Hey is you are not satisfied with the service you can ask for refund of your remaining balance within 30 days after you made a payment.

Since calls can be made via a Sip device, you I guess voice quality should also be good.

Now lets see which country can Callwithus prove to be a good calling option. Offcourse I would suggest you to mix your calls with different voip providers, Pingo calling cards (calls to India at 1.37cents) and Tabrio can prove to be a good option in this regard.

Callwithus offers calls rate to India mobile at just 2.6cents/minute. Pakistan landline calls are at just 6cents/minute. So, it is a good calling option for specially India and Pakistan. You can check call rates for other countries at Callwithus website.

Mycantos offering free sms to India anywhere
Hi,

Recently there has been lot of development in social networking sites. Many people still live in world of facebook and orkut, though I guess they are the best but there are lot more soial networking and dating sites. Many of these social networking sites have incorporated some addtional featurs besdies scraping, albums, profile etc. One of the coolest features added to orkut, is Free sms feature by Mycantos.

Mycantos itself is a social networking site, but the coolest part about is that one can send unlimited number of free sms to anywhere in India directly from the internet. Communication via sms has always been a popular thing. The web is full of websites offering Free internet sms’es, but I guess many are limited to 3-5 sms per day.

To send free sms to anywhere in India, one just needs to register with Mycantos. After that one can send free sms directly from their website. The sms can be about 80 characters long which is followed by a small 60 -80 character advertisement. I guess no one minds about the advertisement as long as they are getting it free.

I have tried the service, and even I use it quite regularly. The sms reach its destinations within few seconds. You can give it a try.
